Robert Hope-Jones was born on the 9th February 1859 at Hooton Grange.
The Birth Certificate states that his fathers occupation was "Landed Proprietor" or in other words quite wealthy.
Hooton Grange was a splendid Mansion built on the Wirral Peninsular in Cheshire.
The Mansion was designed by Charles Verelst an influential Liverpool Architect and built by Thomas Brassey the son of a Chester Farmer who decided not to go into farming but to become a building contractor.
Brassey made later great fame as a major builder of railways around the world, working with George Stevenson. The house was demolished in the 1950's having served as an Officers Mess during WWII.
