Robert Hope-Jones

HIS FIRST PIPE ORGAN

At Saint Johns Church Birkenhead.

While working for the Lancashire and Cheshire Telephone Company Robert Hope-Jones began to experiment with pipe organ design. This eventually led to his rebuilding the organ in Saint Johns Church Birkenhead.

This organ was rebuilt in 1927 by organ builder Charles Whiteley.

Note the two angels at the top of the organ case, these turned out to be a sort of trade mark of Robert Hope-Jones.

Alas in 1976 Saint Johns Church was Demolished.

Some items from this organ are preserved in the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trusts Hope-Jones Museum.
