Robert Hope-Jones

Hope-Jones Inventions that he patented

Introduction

Robert Hope-Jones being a telephone engineer used that knowledge to make many inventions relating to pipe organs. One of his main achievments being major improvement to the electrical action used to control the organ. He was the first to invent the use of detached and mobile console's for playing the organ. A famous early photograph being of him playing the St Johns Birkenhead organ from a mobile console outside the main west door of the Church.

He made many changes to the design of organ pipes and also invented many new types of pipes. One very powerful pipes design being the Diaphone which in 1897 was repatented as the Fog Horn and was used on Lighthouses all over the world.

His many inventions paved the way for his invention of the Theatre Organ and the major exponent being the Wurlitzer Company.

Below is a list of his patents with a general note to show what the invention was, however there were many additional ideas included in the patents that led to other major inventions.
